May 16, 2023 · In a Facebook post Tuesday, Julie Martineau, whose father Robert co-founded Brault & Martineau with Denis Brault in 1960, said she was “furious” and sad that the brand was disappearing. “He had so much confidence toward this person to whom he transferred and sold his baby for such growth in Quebec,” she wrote about her father, who died in 1999.

While the Tanguay brand had strong roots in Quebec City and Trois Rivieres, it needed to introduce itself to shoppers in places like Montreal, Sherbrooke and Gatineau, where Brault & Martineau was the more well-known name.
