The roots of the Hohner firm are in Trossingen, Baden-Württemberg. Hohner has manufactured a wide range of instruments, such as harmonicas, kazoos, accordions, recorder flutes, melodicas, banjos, electric, acoustic, resonator and classical guitars, basses, mandolins and ukuleles (under the brand name Lanikai).

This museum, with its focus on the cultural history of the instruments, developed steadily and was able to make a great leap forward in April 2016 when the redesigned and extended Harmonica Museum reopened at a new location in Building V of the Hohner Company Site – its authentic home.
A lot has happened since Matthias Hohner founded his company in Trossingen, Germany in 1857. HOHNER became the market leader in harmonicas and accordions with a worldwide network of artists through consistent dedication to quality.
The small town of Trossingen, in Baden-Württemburg 106 km south-west of Stuttgart has a population of only 16,000 but is one of Europe’s most important centres for the manufacture of musical instruments. Christian Messner (1805-74) first made harmonicas in the town in the early 1830s.
