The Reverend Philip Bennet Power and his wife, Emma, undertook the education of their own daughters at their Abbey Wood home, West Heath House. The quality of the girls' education attracted other local families to ask the Powers to teach their children and West Heath School thus opened in 1865.
West Heath – a short history. The beginnings of West Heath came with a vicar, Revd PB Power MA, and his formidable wife. West Heath School in 1887. Having a dog join staff and pupils became a regular feature of school photos over the years.
History and Grounds. The old school house was originally built in the 18th century and was the home of the Elliot family. It became a school in 1932, at the time being West Heath Girls School, a very exclusive girls' school with around 100 boarding pupils.
Bought by Mohamed Al Fayed to house Val May’s Beth Marie Centre, the school is now using education to rebuild the lives of children who have experienced trauma in their lives. Run as a charity the school reopened in September 1988 as the New School at West Heath.
