Nancy's request for her loved ones to be alive in the final scene is only fulfilled in the dream realm, and there are several clues that indicate the scene is a dream.
The whole thing is revealed to be a dream and her friends are all good, the nightmare is over. Then, with the inclusion of the ending Robert Shaye pushed for, it’s revealed she is still dreaming, her turning her back on Freddy did nothing, and she’s still trapped. Her friends being alive is basically just a trick by Freddy.
The ending is nonsense. I don't get it either. From an earlier thread on this sub about it: "The confusing ending of the movie was due to producer Robert Shaye wanting a scary ending. Wes Craven intended the movie to have a happy ending that when Nancy wakes up after defeating Freddy, she realizes the entire movie was just a dream.

Hence the title "A Nightmare on Elm St." And at the end of the movie everyone is alive and happy, and it's a nice sun shiny moment. Till they reveal that you're still in the nightmare. It's an absolutely brilliant ending. 9.
