Despite strong employment gains year-over-year, as of June 2021, employment in Ontario remains 2.5% below its pre-pandemic level in February 2020. In June 2021, Ontario’s employment increased by 1.6% (+116,900), while Canada’s employment increased by 1.2% (+230,700).

Employment increased by 42,700 (+0.6%) jobs in October 2022, with the majority of gains in part-time employment (+37,400; +2.8%). The unemployment rate rose for the fourth consecutive month to 5.9% in October, 0.1 percentage point up from the previous month.
