County Meath (/ miːð / MEEDH; Irish: Contae na Mí or simply an Mhí, lit.'middle') is a county in the Eastern and Midland Region of Ireland, within the province of Leinster.
County Meath has heritage in spades. It was the former seat of the High Kings of Ireland; it offered up 12th century Trim Castle as a key location in Mel Gibson’s epic movie, Braveheart; and it’s home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site at Brú na Bóinne.
Meath is the only county in Leinster which has two Gaeltachts (Irish-speaking regions) Rathcairn and Baile Ghib. It is home to the only official strand races in Europe, which take place on Laytown Beach each year.
