Madhouse, Inc. (株式会社マッドハウス, Kabushiki-gaisha Maddohausu) is a Japanese animation studio founded in 1972 by ex–Mushi Pro staff, including Masao Maruyama, Osamu Dezaki, and Yoshiaki Kawajiri. Madhouse has created and helped to produce many well-known shows, OVAs and films, starting with TV anime series Ace o Nerae!
Once upon a time, Madhouse was considered the home of great, high quality, mature anime. If Madhouse picked up a show, you had a pretty good chance of it being a really good show. Unfortunately that bankruptcy really messed them up. It's not like they're dead but they were much more on top then than they are now.
This is the exact thing people who claim madhouse is in decline are saying. It's never been "Madhouse is incapable of producing good content" but "most of their unique talent have left the studio, and the studio is no longer special." Madhouse is just another studio-for-hire now.
