Paul Henreid and Maureen O'Hara give amazing performances. The screenplay is good but a little slow. Frank Borzage did a great job directing this movie.

The Spanish Main is a 1945 American adventure film starring Paul Henreid, Maureen O'Hara, Walter Slezak and Binnie Barnes, and directed by Frank Borzage. It was RKO's first all-Technicolor film since Becky Sharp ten years before. Cinematographer George Barnes received an Oscar nomination for Best Color Cinematography.
The Spanish Main (1945) was very much Paul Henreid's baby; he wanted to shake up his image by playing a red-blooded, two-fisted romantic hero. Many feel he was miscast in the lead, too effete to be a swashbuckling pirate captain.
