By 1929, A&P was present in 200 communities in Ontario and Quebec. [1] A&P Canada left the Quebec market in 1984, and in 1985 acquired Dominion Stores in Ontario.
During a one-year transition period, these stores co-existed in Ontario with the "old" Dominion stores that Argus hadn't sold to A&P, causing customer confusion. At one point during this period, the head of A&P Canada said he called Black personally to ensure the Argus-owned stores' marketing, which referenced the stores still being Canadian-owned, abided by the sale contract. This office is the Metro Ontario Division headquarters. Metro, a Quebec super market chain, acquired A&P Canada in 2005.

Oct 18, 2007 · I don't have the best grasp on A&P Canada's 1950s and 1960s architecture. Many of the stores from that era in southwest Ontario have either been demolished or renovated beyond recognition. A&P Canada also had a reputation for being a quasi-independent corner of the A&P empire, with its own practices and store designs different from those of A&P US.
