  1. Mar 12, 2023 · Not sure about Apocalypse Now. I believe the Redux is the 'proper' version according to the film-maker, but that does not mean it's the best versions in the minds of fans. But, it does mean that this is the actual vision the film-maker had in his head, he just was unable to do it at the time.

  2. Aug 23, 2012 · The original cut is much better than Redux. Redux doesn't add anything worthwhile to the film besides unnecessary shots of tits. The added scenes also throw off the pacing, and one particular scene at a mansion completely ruins the atmosphere. The non-redux version is near flawless. 28.

  3. Jun 13, 2020 · I'd argue that Apocalypse Now is one of the more confusing examples of this, because it's unclear which is Francis Ford Coppola's preferred version, and which is the most well-liked version by audiences. In the last month, I watch all three versions of Apocalypse Now (theatrical, redux and final) for the first time, having seen other advice on ...

  4. The Playboy bunny scene, the plantation scene all adds to the overall inexplicable experience that I sometimes struggle to put in words. But like other posters said here, start with the Theatrical Cut -- that's the "film". Watch Apocalypse Now the Film. Go for the Redux if you want Apocalypse Now the Experience. 1.

  5. Feb 5, 2023 · The Redux cut was my first viewing of Apocalypse Now so I have some bias in favor of that cut, but I will try to detach from that in my brief analysis. From a film criticism standpoint, I can agree with most when it is asserted that the theatrical version is the best. It is short enough to not bore audiences, and it is concise enough to get the ...

  6. Jan 8, 2022 · The Final Cut is the ideal balance of both. Coppola took out some of the Redux scenes, but kept the most important ones and even slightly re-edited them to make them better. I recommend watching one of the longer versions - Redux or Final Cut. The theatrical cut is an incomplete film, in my opinion.

  7. Aug 29, 2017 · rabbitfoot00. Apocalypse Now 1979 vs. Redux? Discussion. Both are often considered masterpieces, even though many critics seem to think that the scenes included in the Redux ruin the pacing of the film. Plenty of films have benefited from extended cuts, such as Blade Runner, but the Redux adds a whopping 49 minutes to the runtime.

  8. FFC obviously wanted to include the French colonial history into the film. But, the scene destroyed the tension, and served no purpose. The other scene that was cut, the Playboy bunnies stranded at the up-river support depot, was downright weird, and also served no purpose.

  9. Mar 31, 2022 · Question about the Redux addition with the Playboy Bunnies. I’m that scene, Lance is holding one woman for a while. There’s a coffin next to them if I remember correctly. The coffin also falls over and the lid comes off, showing the missing playmate since we only see 2.

  10. Aug 23, 2019 · Redux does fuck up the film's pacing, tension and even tone but it's better than nothing. It does no such thing. It has a different pacing, different tensions, and different tone. The theatrical cut still exists. Redux was meant to be something different, a new experience, not a replacement for the original.
