Dec 2, 2023 · Like John Stamos Mullet said, standard joysticks that are 2600 compatible work. I personally tested 3 standard joysticks from Atari Flashback consoles, they all work. I also tested the Hyperkin Trooper and Ranger controllers, they work too.

NOTE: the #1 reported issue with joysticks is the up direction doesn’t work, if you have a original TI-99/4A the alpha-lock key interferes with this direction. You must have alpha-lock UP to use the joystick. TI Handheld controllers are very common in the black plastic model.

Jan 29, 2007 · You would probably need to replace the cable because the TI uses pins 5 and 9 which may not be present in an Atari compatible Joystick cable. You should be able to wire up a Sega Genesis controller (inside) for instance because it uses all 9 pins and they are all present inside the controller.
