Use a soft tape measure to measure around your waist for the waist measurement.
The tape measure has to bend around your waist, so it needs to be soft. Place the measuring tape directly against your skin about 4 inches (10 cm) below your belly button. Go around the back of your body and back to the front to measure your waist. You'll find many stores use this measurement.
If you're not measuring against you're skin, you won't get an accurate measurement.
