We find it exciting to watch shows in which we don't know the outcome. When the Emmy Awards are announced, millions of people tune in to see how their favorite shows fare. A win can boost an actor's career or cause a show's ratings to skyrocket. Sometimes, an Emmy award can give a low-rated but well-made show a whole new lease on life.

- The Sopranos. Like Breaking Bad, The Sopranos didn't find itself winning the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy until the end of its run. The series only won for season 5, as well as season 6, part 2, though its reputation has held up stronger than 24 or The West Wing and is often considered the greatest show ever made.
- Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad came on the tails of Mad Men, which had already found some popularity and had some catching up to do to establish itself for AMC.
- Succession. Though Succession only recently ended, the series will likely be remembered as one of the greatest ever. After winning Emmys for its second and third seasons, it isn't farfetched to predict that it'll bring home the award again for its fourth and final season in 2023.
- Mad Men. Mad Men was one of the most compelling series of its time, rightfully winning four Emmys in a row for its first four seasons. Following Don Draper (Jon Hamm) in 1960s New York, the show simultaneously portrays the work culture of a Madison Avenue advertising agency, as well as Draper's personal life at his home in suburban Westchester.
