Recreational fires less than 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet high do not require a permit. Burning garbage and using burn barrels is illegal statewide and subject to fines that can exceed $1,000.

Sep 23, 2021 · Recreational fires are OK under certain conditions. Sept. 23, 2021. Island County has reduced its fire safety burn ban to Stage 1, meaning outdoor burning is still prohibited in unincorporated areas but recreational fires are OK.
