  3. honestly, if fast-charging lowers battery life -- macOS should give you the option to charge at "normal speed" by default; and optionally enable fast-charging once at a time. i already use AlDente Pro to limit charging to 80%... and normal speed 65W charging my 14" M1 Max is plenty fast for me as it is.

  4. I think the main concern here is one end of the MagSafe cable is already USB-C, so the charging is already fully PD, unless Apple broke USB-C specs severely and wrote their own charging protocol for the C-MagSafe2 cable.
