Those who have purchased their DVC points directly from Disney (or purchased resale DVC points prior to 3/21/11) can also use those points at Disney resort hotels in California, Florida, France, Hong Kong, Japan, the Disney Cruise Line, and other (non-Disney) vacations.
Resale will undoubtedly be cheaper than direct, but pay attention to monetary incentives DVC offers when comparing that beings the price per point down. Resale brokers like to advertise the savings of a resale contract against the base price but with incentives the delta can be a lot smaller (especially the incentives one you start buying in the 200+ point range).
