Therapeutic Music is non-prescriptive, does not require active listening or interaction, and requires a certification. A Certified Therapeutic Musician uses the artistic application of the intrinsic elements of live music and sound to provide an environment conducive to the healing process.
There are currently five Therapeutic Music training programs accredited by the NSBTM. These programs adhere to the Accreditation Standards which ensure consistent, requisite program curricula and preparation for offering live therapeutic music at the bedside.
The NSBTM provides guidelines for certification to assure the therapeutic musician training programs meet accreditation standards. Practitioners can be found under their respective program from which they graduated.
