How are Certified Therapeutic Musicians paid? Each healthcare facility funds therapeutic music differently. Funds may come out of a particular department’s budget, or from the facility’s foundation, auxiliary or special funding, or attained from grant sources.

Up to $200 of tuition reduction is occasionally given to acknowledge advanced musical education and/or professional healthcare experience. This is determined by the Program Coordinator when each application to MHTP is reviewed, and you will be promptly notified if a reduction is approved.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of need, your commitment to complete all MHTP requirements within three years after completing the first module, and the availability of MHTP scholarship funds. Topics usually include the latest research, methods for gaining paid employment as a certified therapeutic musician, self-care, and networking. The past two have been virtual. Recordings from past MHTP conferences are available for purchase.
The NSBTM provides guidelines for certification to assure the therapeutic musician training programs meet accreditation standards. Practitioners can be found under their respective program from which they graduated.
