- Find a Therapeutic Musician
Some Certified Therapeutic Musicians work as employees, while others are independent contractors for a facility or work in private practice. What is the future of therapeutic music? Since the inception of the therapeutic music field in the early 1990’s, hundreds of Certified Therapeutic Musicians have served humanity and made a difference in the comfort care of patients.
There are currently five Therapeutic Music training programs accredited by the NSBTM. These programs adhere to the Accreditation Standards which ensure consistent, requisite program curricula and preparation for offering live therapeutic music at the bedside. Music for Healing and Transition Program (MHTP) est. 1994, accredited since 2008.
The NSBTM is working to promote our profession, has created a Presentation packet for use by therapeutic musicians, and has made wonderful strides in collaboration with the American Music Therapy Association so that music therapists increasingly understand the profession of therapeutic musicians, as well as the possibilities for supporting each other and working together.

Benefits to students who attend and graduate from a CAMT-Recognized music therapy education program include: Eligibility for internship. Upon completion of an internship, graduates are eligible to take the CBMT* Exam and after passing this exam, can apply for MTA Certification signifying they are qualified to work in the field and will adhere to the CAMT Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
