    The Medical and Dental Education Program brings together academic institutions and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers (VAMCs) to provide Graduate Medical Education (GME). Each year, the program provides clinical experiences to 75,000 medical and 1,000 dental trainees.

    All VA residency training programs must be fully accredited by the appropriate body. Residents must be enrolled in an accredited program to be eligible for VA funding. In some situations, Chief Residents may be funded as post-residency positions.

    Most GME programs are sponsored in the name of an affiliate, generally a medical school or teaching hospital. This means interested residents and students will apply to the affiliate.
