The history of the Ballygunge Govt.High School dates back to circa 1908 when the David Hare Training college was established at 115 ,Albert Building at College Street. Since it was a leased accommodation Mr.W.E.Griffith M.A(Oxon),the first Principal of the college took an initiative to transfer the college to South Kolkata where it could be built and expanded on a larger campus.
In 1959, the Alumni Association of Ballygunge Govt. High School was formed in Lansdowne, Kolkata.
