The default Minecraft sword. It offers no specific advantages, but also suffers no specific drawbacks.
Basic Hilt
By default the only available hilt is the "basic hilt". The weight of the hilt dramatically affects the swing speed of the weapon, but the hilt is also the weapon's primary source of Integrity. Since Netherite is one of the lightest metals as well as one of the strongest, without any additional mods, it will be the objectively best material in most cases.
The guard is a minor module. Socket and binding options are also found here, and may only be used in place of a guard, not in tandem with one.
Decorative Pommel
Found by default on any vanilla sword, the decorative pommel doesn't do anything and can be removed or replaced freely.
Counterweight
Increases the swing speed of a sword. The material used can impact the bonus this module provides, but typically not by much, which makes it an ideal module for gold and for the increase to enchanting capacity that gold provides.
Grip Loop
A grip loop increases the attack reach of the sword, provides it with a mild sweeping ability, and typically increases the sword's attack speed. Although it competes with the counterweight for module space, in most cases the grip loop offers more benefits and is the clear, superior option.
Reinforced Fuller
Provides additional Integrity to the sword with the drawback of adding weight to it, reducing its attack speed. Flexible, lightweight materials with decent integrity perform the most effectively with this module, making bone a good choice where readily available options are concerned.
Howling Blade
One of the single most confusingly named modules in Tetra, the howling blade is not a blade module. Instead, it's a type of fuller that slows the sword's attack speed, reduces the sword's integrity, and gives a sword a percentile chance to evade projectiles after the sword is used. The howling blade's effects wear off in a short time, so it is most effective on a sword which has a fast attack speed - which, again, the howling blade will reduce.
