(Remove the spandrels, clean and/or re silver the number dial and polish and re-varnish. I have read a little on-line about cleaning but wanted to see what this community has to say.

Firstly look over your entire clock case and you will most likely see small dents, scratches or even a few small areas of veneer chips. Don’t worry; this is easily fixed using a hard wax stick. They come with a plastic applicator that helps you to press the wax into the area and remove any excess. You then simply buff off the wax until smooth.

If any of the glasses came out of the case, replace them, not forgetting the plastic strips in the grooves, which should be at the top ends of their grooves. Jan 12, 2013 · The second step is to put it back together and look for worn “pivot” holes. Pivot holes are where the gear shafts rotate against the plates. There are no bearings in this clock. The gear shafts just run bare in the pivot holes with a light oil. Over time, this round holes start to wear out and become oval shaped.
