The BG readings from your vet's/human doctor'd laboratory machines is based on only measuring the glucose in the liquid portion of the blood, not the RBC. that is why human meters are calibrated/adjusted to plasma values to allow comparison with your doctor's BG values.

Serum fructosamine levels are proportional to the average blood glucose concentration that your cat has achieved over the past 7–14 days, so it can be used in long-term monitoring of diabetic cats. Recent changes in blood glucose concentrations are not detected by serum fructosamine levels.
