I would suggest that this "Math" is relative to both the circumstances of the consumer (income/budget, costs of traveling to the store, time to get there etc.) and the purchase completed with the rain check (amount of savings, quantity, frequency of occurrence of the sale). In other words, the math can work out, or it might not.

Apr 7, 2022 · What I'm doing is watching for items I want on sale. I'll buy a few, but usually the store shelf goes bare (supply chain issues). Now I can get a raincheck for the item. At the grocery store, this is good for 30 days. But here's the kicker. If the item is still out of stock and the raincheck is expiring, you can ask them to renew the raincheck.
Nov 23, 2008 · Hi all, I was watching a US reality show and they mentioned a service in US supermarkets whereby if you see a product advertised on offer but go to the shop and it is out of stock they can give you a 'rain check' which is a voucher entitling you to buy the same product at the offer price when it is back in stock.

Note that you don’t have to buy the maximum quantity written on the raincheck, unless it’s a requirement of the sale, such as a “buy 2, get 3 free” deal where you have to buy all 5 items.
