OBS uses the GPU of the monitor it's being rendered on, so you'd need to plug whatever monitor you usually use for OBS into the 970. Another alternative besides using a capture card on a separate PC, in my opinion, would be to set up your PC with Proxmox, where you have two Windows VMs.
Oct 26, 2021 · NVENC is a separate part of the GPU core and does NOT use *any* game-rendering assets. The only time you'll see 'encoding overloaded' with NVENC active is if you're using the Max Quality preset (use Quality instead), Lookahead or Psychovisual Tuning (turn them OFF).
May 23, 2023 · If you have an Intel CPU and running the game on an external GPU, you can use Quicksync on the iGPU as encoder, which is effectively offloading encoding to a different GPU. Using Quicksync on the iGPU isn't wasting that much resources as using a hardware encoder on an external GPU.

So I’ve watched multiple videos on people using dual GPU’s for streaming in OBS. The main GPU plays your game while the second uses the NVENC coder for your stream. The videos I’ve seen people are using the 1080ti. Then I’ve watched other videos where it won’t work with people using 20 series cards.
Encoding with nvenc will work like a charm. The only way to use 2 video cards for streaming without hidden problems is 2 pc setup with capture card. The 2080 has a very good encoder, 960 has a mediocre encoder. In your case, it is better to limit the frame rate in games to 60 fps.
Jul 11, 2023 · Recommended OBS Encoder Setting: x264. The x264 encoder is a good fit for the combination of a Ryzen 5 and a Radeon RX 500 series GPU. For 1080p streaming, consider a bitrate in the range of 3500 to 4500 kbps with a 'faster' CPU usage preset. AMD Ryzen 7 with Radeon RX 5000 series.
