8 years ago. The tower has some advantages; it is an easier and generally less crowded climb; and one does get the most fantastic upclose view of the Duomo Dome. I think it is a tough choice - for me the decision was not the Duomo because I am fairly tall and heard it would be uncomfortable getting around there. Maybe I should go back and try it.

We didn't climb the Duomo (and I'm assuming you mean Florence) but did the bell tower - the bell tower has levels as well, so if you need to pause and catch your breathe, you can stop at each level - then you aren't holding up the line. You might get a little out of breath, but as another post mentioned, each floor has a big open area where you can stop and sit down. The heat is more of a problem then the climb, but that really only matters in peak heat months, and is still not that bad.

Each time slot only has 125 tickets available, and they often sell out! The first time slot of the day is from 8:15 AM to 9 AM and the last time slot of the day is from 6:45 PM to 7:30 PM.
