André George Previn KBE (/ ˈprɛvɪn /; born Andreas Ludwig Priwin; April 6, 1929 – February 28, 2019) [1][2] was a German-American pianist, composer, and conductor. His career had three major genres: Hollywood films, jazz, and classical music. In each he achieved success, and the latter two were part of his life until the end.
It felt strangely appropriate that the news of André Previn’s death reached me here, in the German capital, where he was born in 1929 and spent his first nine years, one-tenth of his life.
