An Act to establish conflict of interest and post-employment rules for public office holders. [Enacted by section 2 of chapter 9 of the Statutes of Canada, 2006, in force July 9, 2007, see SI/2007-75.]
The Conflict of Interest Act, administered by the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner, seeks to prevent conflicts between private interests and the public duties of appointed government officials, called “public office holders.”

Dec 12, 2006 · The Conflict of Interest Act came into effect on July 9, 2007. The Act replaced the Conflict of Interest Code for Public Office Holders, creating, for the first time, a legislative regime to govern ethical conduct of public office holders, both during and after employment.
Canada’s first Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner was appointed in July 2007. Conflict of Interest Act. The Conflict of Interest Act applies to almost 3,000 public office holders. All public office holders must follow the Act’s core set of conflict of interest and post-employment rules.
