Stephenson park is the eldest within the City of Edmond parks-scape. Originally commissioned when it was given to the City in 1894, known then as South Park. The park was renamed in 1934 to Stephenson park after the then City Manager, Fred M. Stephenson.

May 23, 2024 · The park idea began in 2021, when Edmond businessman and philanthropist Hal French purchased 62 acres of land on the northwest corner of East 2nd Street and North Coltrane Road. French wanted to develop this land into a park, which would feature over 30 public art sculptures owned by the city and also included a new Art and Event Center, a playground, a dog park and restaurant sites.
Jan 11, 2024 · Brad Raney, Edmond Parks and Recreation Director, told the Council that the A.C. Caplinger baseball field complex at Hafer Park has needed renovation for many years. “They were built in the 1970s, they've served their useful purpose. The fields, the complex are in need of replacement, especially some of the infrastructure,” Raney said.
