Jan 7, 2005 · This is a list of musical terms that are likely to be encountered in printed scores. Most of the defined terms are Italian (see also Italian musical terms used in English), in accordance with the Italian origins of many European musical conventions.
Example: the second movement of Mozart’s Symphony No. 40. Aria. Meaning ‘air’ in Italian, an aria is a song, which can have instrumental or orchestral accompaniment, and is usually normally part of a larger work. Most common in opera, arias also occur in oratorios and cantatas. There are also stand-alone concert arias. Atonal.
