Sep 25, 2019 · Habitat destruction is one of the biggest threats facing plants and animal species throughout the world. The loss of habitat has far-reaching impacts on the planet’s ability to sustain life, but even with the challenges, there is hope for the future.
3 days ago · Habitat loss is the leading cause of the global decline in biodiversity (see also biodiversity loss). There are three major types of habitat loss: habitat destruction, habitat fragmentation, and habitat degradation.
Feb 15, 2022 · The definition of biodiversity loss is described as the loss of life on Earth at various levels, ranging from reductions in the genetic diversity to the collapse of entire ecosystems. In addition to its intrinsic value, biodiversity underpins ecosystem services, providing the backbone of the global economy.

Habitat loss is probably the greatest threat to the variety of life on this planet today. It is identified as a main threat to 85% of all species described in the IUCN's Red List (those species officially classified as "Threatened" and "Endangered").
Among the top drivers of biodiversity loss are land use change, exploitation of wildlife (through fishing, logging and hunting), pollution and our influence on climate. We are overexploiting Earth's natural resources and converting natural habitats into farms, factories, roads and cities. In the ocean, we are overfishing, drilling and mining.
Nov 29, 2023 · Habitat is lost and degraded when natural or human-caused activities alter these places so that fewer species can live there. For example, when a section of forest is cut down and replaced with farmland or urban spaces, the living places of hundreds of species may be eliminated.
