The metaphorical expression word salad (or word-salad) refers to the practice of stringing together words that have no apparent connection to one another—an extreme case of jumbled speech or disorderly writing. Also called (in psychology) paraphrasia.
When someone exhibits disorganized speech, their words may seem jumbled, incoherent, or lacking coherence. An example of disorganized speech can manifest as tangentiality – when the individual strays off-topic and goes on unrelated tangents during conversation.
