Sep 1, 2024 · The War Of Independence 1857 Causes of War Of Independence: The revolt of 1857 was the most severe outburst of anger and discontent accumulated in the hearts of various sections of the Indian society ever since the inception of British rule in Bengal, following the Battle of Plassey in 1757 and the Battle of Buxar 1764.
[4] [5] The rebellion began on 10 May 1857 in the form of a mutiny of sepoys of the company's army in the garrison town of Meerut, 40 miles (64 km) northeast of Delhi. It then erupted into other mutinies and civilian rebellions chiefly in the upper Gangetic plain and central India , [ b ] [ 6 ] [ c ] [ 7 ] though incidents of revolt also occurred farther north and east.
