Sociology seeks to study the society and to analyse it in terms of the social relations that have a pattern. Sociology addresses itself to three basic questions: i) how and why societies emerge? ii) how and why societies persist? and iii) how and why societies change? Sociology has been concerned with the evolution of society.
In essence, social research attempts to discover something new about the world by studying how a social system works (Neuman & Robson, 2018). Some authors and institu-tions define social research from different points of view. Table 3.1 provides several popular definitions of social research.
