Jan 28, 2022 · well in 1953, Cadillac, Buick, and Oldsmobile all had their version of the 1953 Frigidaire trunk air conditioning, then in December 1953, the 1954 Pontiac became the first production automobile to offer up front, in dash factory air conditioning, followed six months later was the 1954 Nash version, in 1955, Oldsmobile switched to up front in dash a/c, Buick in 1956, then finally Cadillac in 1957.
Nov 30, 2019 · A quick refresher for those new to this series: Factory air conditioning was first introduced in 1939 by Packard, quickly followed by Cadillac in 1941 and Chrysler in 1942 (full story here). Factory A/C then disappeared after World War II, not to reappear until 1953 when it was independently reintroduced by GM, Chrysler, and Lincoln.

By the mid-1950s, factory A/C was available from every major manufacturer. The re-entry of Detroit into the automotive air conditioning business did little to slow the sales of aftermarket A/C.
