Many Slytherins and Hufflepuffs wore the badges prior to the First Task for their own reasons: the Slytherins had a long-standing animosity towards Gryffindor, but the Hufflepuffs thought that Harry had stolen their glory by rivalling Cedric, and wore the badges to intimidate him.
- Unicorn Hair Wand. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, we discover that Cedric’s wand has a unicorn hair core. Pottermore describes wands with unicorn hairs as faithful and “difficult to turn to the Dark Arts.”
- Gryffindor vs. Hufflepuff. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Cedric attempts to forfeit Hufflepuff’s Quidditch victory after discovering that the Dementors had caused Harry to fall from his broom.
- Triwizard Camaraderie. As the first Hogwarts Champion in Goblet of Fire, Cedric strives to bring honor to Hogwarts and Hufflepuff. I think he also views the competition as an opportunity for camaraderie.
- Against the “Potter Stinks” Badges. The King of Cups believes in fair play, and Cedric mirrors this belief in Goblet of Fire. In the book, Harry suspects that Cedric asked people to stop wearing the “Potter Stinks” badges.
I’d guess that most students were probably careful not to flash the “Potter Stinks” part right in front of a professor (except for Slytherins who might do it in front of Snape, but it’s not like he’d care), and the professors can’t exactly tell them off for wearing a “Support Cedric Diggory” badge.
Sep 23, 2020 · On one side the badges said “Support CEDRIC DIGGORY – the REAL Hogwarts Champion!” in red letters that glowed brightly enough to illuminate the dark corridor outside the Potions classroom. The badges changed magically when pressed to say “POTTER STINKS” in luminous green ( GF18 ).
Lots of the other pro-Cedric students treat Harry like garbage (since they think he cheated to get himself into the tournament), but Cedric doesn't agree or approve of that behavior. When some of the students start wearing "Potter Stinks" badges, Cedric makes a point of trying to apologize to Harry:
Cedric was the type of person that is two faced. During the tournament people were wearing badges that said,"Potter stinks" Cedric told Harry that he asked them to stop. But if Cedric ( Whom was well liked by most in Hogwarts) had really told them to stop with a straight face.

Jun 14, 2014 · When Harry's name is pulled from the Goblet of Fire, Cedric doesn't believe Harry when he says he didn't put his name in, however, he remains very civil with Harry and later tells the Hufflepuffs not to wear the "Potter Stinks" badges and to, basically, lay off Harry.
