Leventhal cited a lack of trust in Wagner’s ability to continue leading the megachurch.

Embattled Dallas megachurch Senior Pastor Todd Wagner has resigned from his position after accusations of spiritual abuse led elders to question his leadership of Watermark Community Church. Elder and staff member David Leventhal stepped down in late March, citing “an erosion of trust” in Wagner’s ability to lead.
May 1, 2021 · With last weekend’s resignation of Elder David Leventhal & Elder/Sr. Pastor Todd Wagner – it seems all is not well at Watermark Church. Members received the news of Leventhal’s resignation a month after he tendered it, adding to the suspicion that a months long process of dealing with Wagner’s ‘pride problem’ appears to be more than what has been disclosed to the church.

Apr 27, 2021 · In a statement to the congregation, the elders explain that longtime elder and staff member David Leventhal resigned his position due to an inability to support Wagner continuing as senior pastor. Leventhal described it as “a loss of trust in Todd’s ability to lead in the role of pastoral elder/senior pastor, which was the direction the elders were wanting to move to.”
