Mar 29, 2024 · Jesus is preeminent in relation to the entire creation—both visible and invisible. The visible creation includes everything we can see with our eyes. Plants, animals, humankind, sea life, the sun, moon, stars, and planets, mountains, valleys, forests, rivers, lakes, oceans, and seas are all the handiwork of Jesus.
- Individuals. “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). The essence of Jesus’ mission was to save the individual life of every person who chooses to put his or her trust in him.
- Women. “There is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). No one altered the role of women in society more than Christ.
- Family Life. “Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord…Husbands, love your wives just as Christ also loved the Church…Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right” (Ephesians 5:22, 25; 6:1).
- The Church. “I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). Though the Church has not always properly applied the teachings of Christ, it is also true that no group of people have made a more positive impact on the history of the world than the Christian Church.
- Incarnation: God with Us. God the Son became a human being. The mind boggles to explain how this is possible. God was en-fleshed into human existence; this is what ‘incarnation’ means.
- Life: God as Us. Because Jesus became truly human, he came to live under God as us. He identified with his people and joyfully calls us his brothers and sisters (Hebrews 2:11).
- Cross: God for Us. Whilst we were sinful enemies of God, Jesus died for us (Romans 5:8-10). He died as a substitute for us. It was an extraordinarily unworthy trade given the infinite value of the Jesus’ life, and the depths to which we had descended in our sinful rebellion.
- Resurrection: God through Us. Humanity was once given dominion over creation. In Adam we squandered it and devoted this gift to Satan and his lies (Genesis 2-3).
