Dec 5, 2023 · Much about Mary and her relationship with God is revealed when we read about her response to the angel when she was told she would give birth to the promised Messiah (see Luke 1:26–38). Mary showed tremendous humility of heart—the same humble quality we find in Yeshua (see Philippians 2:6–11).
The first effect of humility of heart is a lowly opinion of ourselves: "Mary had always so humble an opinion of herself, that, as it was revealed to the same St. Matilda, although she saw herself enriched with greater graces than all other creatures, she never preferred herself to anyone."
- Mary was chosen by God. Mary didn’t ask to be the mother of the Messiah. She was chosen. The angel, Gabriel, appeared to her and told her that she was to be the mother of the Messiah.
- Mary was a young woman. At the time of the birth of Jesus, Mary was estimated to be around 14 years old. Pretty crazy, right? People just did not live as long back then, and then tended to get married much, much younger.
- Mary was humble. I think if God had chosen me to be the mother of Jesus, I would not have had the same humble spirit that Mary demonstrated. And perhaps maybe this is one reason why God chose her.
- Mary was human. While Mary was a great woman of the Bible, at the end of the day, she was merely a human. Mary herself was not the savior of the world.
Keep me humble and pure of heart so as to make myself worthy of receiving them. (3) MARY, you are for us a House of Gold. You have borne in your womb and brought forth Him to whom we owe every blessing, Jesus, our Redeemer, who has broken the chains of sin, reconciled us with God, and opened heaven for us.
Apr 15, 2023 · O Mary, the virtue of humility was so excellent in thee, that thy body, like a true house of gold, was deemed worthy to become the habitation of the only-begotten Son of the God of glory. Obtain for me, I beseech thee, that I may despise with all my heart every worldly preferment, and may only sigh after the abjection of my Crucified Jesus.
Aug 7, 2018 · We know that the Blessed Virgin Mary was, without doubt, the perfect disciple of Jesus in the practice of all virtues. Ironically, the most profound and important of all the virtues, the actual bedrock of their very existence, is the virtue of humility.
Sep 26, 2023 · But the Bible says that Mary “kept all these things and pondered them in her heart” (Luke 2:19) She remained the Lord’s servant with humble meekness. She did not call up her girlfriends or flaunt her favor in front of anyone which would be human nature to do so.
