The Pioneer Venus Multiprobe, also known as Pioneer Venus 2 or Pioneer 13, was a spacecraft launched in 1978 to explore Venus as part of NASA's Pioneer program. This part of the mission included a spacecraft bus which was launched from Earth carrying one large and three smaller probes, which after separating penetrated the Venusian atmosphere at a different location, returning data as they ...
Oct 17, 2024 · With three forthcoming missions to Venus — NASA’s DAVINCI and VERITAS, plus ESA’s (European Space Agency) Envision — space data archive staff are helping scientists access data from Pioneer Venus, NASA’s last mission to drop probes into Venus’ atmosphere in 1978.
What was Pioneer Venus 1? NASA’s Pioneer Venus 1 was the first of a two-spacecraft orbiter-probe combination designed to study the atmosphere of Venus. Aug 22, 2018 · The bus and probes arrived at Venus 123 days after launch, entering the atmosphere on December 9, 1978. The bus survived for one minute, reaching an altitude of 110 km above the surface. The large probe, which was equipped with a parachute, reached the planet’s surface in one and a half hours. The smaller probes landed in 75 minutes.
Dec 10, 2018 · On Dec. 4, Pioneer Venus Orbiter entered an elliptical orbit around the planet to begin its mission expected to last one Venusian “day”, or about 243 Earth days. Five days later, the Large Probe made its entry into Venus’ atmosphere on the planet’s day side near the equator, returning data until impact with the surface.
May 21, 2018 · The Pioneer Venus Orbiter carried 17 experiments and investigated the atmosphere of Venus as part of an orbiter-probe combination. Insertion into Venus’ atmosphere occurred December 4, 1978. The Pioneer Venus Orbiter measured data from the upper atmosphere and southern region of the planet, including interactions between solar winds and Venus’ magnetic field.
