  1. New Century Version. 16 People may make plans in their minds, but only the Lord can make them come true. 2 You may believe you are doing right, but the Lord will judge your reasons. 3 Depend on the Lord in whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. 4 The Lord makes everything go as he pleases. He has even prepared a day of disaster for evil ...

    • God is sovereign. Sovereignty is the authority to rule. There are no limits to God’s rule. Nothing is outside his control: not your life circumstances, your relationships, your family, or your job.
    • God is good. Knowing that God is in control, that he is sovereign, that he knows things we do not know is important. Maybe you realize this, but you have to also believe that what he says and does is good.
    • God is for your good. Because God is good, everything he does is good. If everything he does is good, then everything he does is for your good. When he changes your plans, it’s because he knows what you do not know and it’s good for you.
    • You are not God. At the beginning, I told you about a war waging in your heart over who will rule your life: you or God. Here’s what you need to know.
  2. 9 We should make plans—counting on God to direct us. 10 God will help the king to judge the people fairly; there need be no mistakes. 11 The Lord demands fairness in every business deal. He established this principle. 12 It is a horrible thing for a king to do evil. His right to rule depends upon his fairness.

  3. Aug 11, 2017 · The Bible shows us over and over again that God’s plans aren’t what we would necessarily choose for themselves. But God never lets the faithful be put to shame. It isn’t Noah’s plan to build an ark, or Moses’s plan to part the Red Sea. It isn’t Joshua’s plan to march around Jericho, and it isn’t the widow’s plan to give Elijah ...

    • Noahic Covenant. After Adam and Eve’s exile from Eden, the biblical narrative feels grim. In Genesis 4, Cain sides with the serpent, killing his brother in cold blood, and a man named Lamech brags about his murderous, chauvinistic ways.
    • Abrahamic Covenant. After God makes a covenant with Noah, evil continues to ruin the world. Genesis 9-11 traces the downward spiral of humanity, and we’re left to wonder: How will God restore his good world?
    • Mosaic Covenant. Exodus opens with Abraham’s offspring multiplying rapidly in Egypt, which threatens the new Pharaoh’s ego. He enslaves God’s people, and they cry out to God to rescue them.
    • Davidic Covenant. God’s people enter Canaan (the promised land) and eventually demand a king, stoking their desire to be like other nations. (Already, we are seeing the people lose sight of their covenant at Mount Sinai.)
  4. Jan 20, 2020 · Published Jan 20, 2020. A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps (Proverbs 16:9). You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail (Proverbs 19:21). Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

  5. Oct 26, 2019 · As Proverbs 16:1 says, “The plans of the heart belong to man.” I might say, “This is my plan,” but God establishes my plans. He makes them work or He lets them fail. He controls what happens. That should poke a hole in your pride, in the confidence you put in your plans. Nothing you plan happens apart from the Lord. Take comfort.
