Jan 27, 2012 · The whales were fading. The smallest whale Knik (“snowflake”) had stopped surfacing and had presumably already drowned under the ice. It was time to take a calculated risk to enlist the U.S. government as humble heroes in this mission to try and save the remaining two whales.
