The Ombudsman resolves and investigates complaints about any matter concerning children and youth receiving services from Ontario children's aid societies, foster homes, group homes, secure treatment facilities and youth justice facilities.
When we receive a complaint, the first step is to determine if we’re the right organization to help. Patient Ombudsman is an office of last resort, which means complainants need to first try and address their concerns directly with you, the health sector organization (HSO).
We help hundreds of people resolve complaints about these bodies every year. The Ombudsman has also conducted systemic investigations into such matters as newborn screening, assistive devices and ambulance service complaints.
Children with special needs may have multiple conditions and/or disabilities that impact their daily activities and functioning.
