The strike zone shown isn't perfect obviously because of the 2d to 3d, but it's a pretty good representation and it's a hell of a lot better than it used to be. Without the strike zone, it's practically impossible to call balls & strikes on TV unless they are obvious because you don't know the angle of the camera.
