Aug 30, 2018 · The reason more than 3 is even more efficient is that one can find some of the diamond veins while digging out other ores. Level 11 is good, higher has fewer diamond ore, 6-10 have slightly more but the lava will give you more trouble.

Lapis and copper, specifically, generate in a different pattern, where they are most common at a single Y level, and then grow less and less common the further up or down from that level you go.
