If you have multiple fare types (e.g. Adult, TTC Fair Pass & GO Post-Secondary Student), you'll be charged the transit agency specific pricing when using that agency, and for all other transit agencies you'll be charged the universal fare type that you've set on PRESTO in Mobile Wallet.

Generally speaking it's rare for them to actually stop working but my dad's did stop tapping eventually. It was supposed to "expire" in I think 2014 or something like that, but it lasted until about a month ago. If it stops working you can contact Presto and they'll transfer your funds to a new card.
The “youth” fare type on my presto card expired at the end of August, however, according to the TTC website, the youth fare is for ages 13-19. I just turned 18 this year. So I went to Shoppers to get my fare type changed to student because I was being charged the full adult fare ($3.20).
