Whether or not the double walls and/or vacuum exist, pouring hot water into the mug for about five minutes (I usually do it twice, as the coldish mug quickly lowers the temp of the first water batch)helps keep the liquid warmer for longer. – MargeGunderson. The Bodum Bistro Glass Coffee Mugis perfect for serious coffee drinkers looking for a good insulated pick, and it's a favorite among the experts and coffee aficionados we consulted. It's made of borosilicate glass with a double-walled construction that offers durability, thermal shock resistance, and heat retention.

    Size

One of the biggest factors to consider is size. How much coffee do you really drink? If you measure it out, you may be surprised. Many of these glasses are 12 ounces or less, which equates to 1.5 cups or less. You'd be shocked by how many of your coffee mugs hold more than 16 ounces, as bigger mugs are popular. Take an honest look at your coffee consumption (in one sitting) before deciding which glass mugs to invest in.

    Glass Type and Construction

Double-walled borosilicate glass offers everything you want in a glass coffee mug. If a glass mug isn't double-walled, it will lose heat more quickly and/or feel hot to the touch. Other materials, like soda-lime glass, are more prone to breaking. Be sure to peek at the fine details before purchasing.

The room temp carafe absorbs just enough heat from the coffee to cool it a bit, and then it loses just enough more heat when transferring to my double walled glass mug to be perfect drinking temp almost immediately.

  7. Effects of Different Mugs: Ceramic, stainless steel, and glass mugs each interact with coffee differently. Ceramic mugs are excellent at heat retention and offer a neutral taste. Stainless steel mugs are durable and practical, but may alter the coffee’s temperature and flavor. Glass mugs provide a visual appeal, but their heat retention is lower.
