The reason for this is that some tiles have what is called warpage as part of their manufacturing process.

May 3, 2017 · It doesn't have to be exactly 33%, most reccomend no more than 33% to prevent excessive lippage. It all depends if you want a random look, or if you want a pattern to your offset. If it's a wood look tile it will look much better as random.
