After watching Naruto in dub, then Shippuden in sub: I remember Naruto dub being fine, but whenever I hear dubs of Shippuden it always makes me cringe. So I would personally recommend sub at least once you get to Shippuden.
Sub overall is better but the villains gotta go to English dub. First off pain is voiced by Joel from the last of us, orochimaru is voiced by the cartoon wolverine, madara’s VA is just insane. Then sasuke who’s voiced by teen ben ten/spiderman.

All depends on what you prefer. I’d say watch one episode with dub and one with sub or watch the same episode twice in dub and sub, see which you prefer. Personally I prefer the dub, but the sub is decent
